Elevating Elegance:
A Penthouse Apartment Conversion
Bondi. Sydney, Australia
The penthouse required a comprehensive update to address a series of challenges. Water damage to the narrow Blackbutt timber flooring necessitated a modern replacement. Functional spaces like the ensuite and laundry needed to balance utility with style. The library and study were tired, requiring a redesign to double as a cosy guest bedroom. Additionally, the client wanted a refreshed living room, dining space, and master bedroom that harmonised with their personal style and love of nature, while integrating their existing furniture.
Solution:
Rochelle Kerr Group (RKG) undertook the transformation with a meticulous and personalised approach. The client’s affinity for blue tones inspired a palette that evolved to include teals and greens, creating a cohesive flow throughout the apartment. In the living area, natural light was embraced with a design that seamlessly connected to the outdoor terrace garden. The refurbished space incorporated new, improved timber flooring and bespoke soft furnishings, blending comfort and sophistication.
The library and study were reimagined as a cocooning retreat, featuring rich, enveloping tones and built-in bookshelves to house an eclectic book collection. This multifunctional space was crafted to accommodate guests while serving as a second living area. Existing furniture was recovered and complemented with bespoke pieces, preserving its sentimental value while elevating the overall aesthetic. Finally, the master bedroom was redesigned to align with the client’s lifestyle, offering a serene yet luxurious retreat.
The result was a transformed penthouse that married functionality with timeless elegance. RKG’s approach integrated new design elements with the client’s treasured possessions, enhancing the apartment's character and sustainability.
"The process of redesigning, upgrading, repurposing, and redecorating is very rewarding. Seeing the existing pieces elevated with bespoke craftsmanship was invigorating. I created a new living environment that is both sustainable and deeply personal." Rochelle Kerr
